Ignition diagnosis and repair — at your location

Ignition faults can range from a worn barrel that no longer turns smoothly, to a stuck key, a sheared wafer, or an electronic fault preventing the immobiliser from releasing. Our technician diagnoses the specific cause before recommending a course of action. In many cases, a worn barrel can be repaired or replaced on-site without requiring the vehicle to be transported to a garage or dealership.

Where a barrel replacement is required, the new barrel typically needs to be coded or programmed to accept the existing key so you do not need a new key cut at the same time. Our technician carries the equipment to complete this coding step on-site for supported vehicles.

Car Key Types We Work With

Different vehicles, different key systems

Not sure which key your vehicle uses? Give us your vehicle make, model and registration and our team can advise you on the available options.

Standard Car Keys

Some older vehicles use straightforward mechanical keys. These may only require accurate cutting to match the vehicle lock.

Transponder Keys

Many vehicles use a transponder chip as part of their immobiliser system. The electronic chip may need programming to the vehicle, not just key cutting.

Remote Key Fobs

Remote keys combine a physical key with electronic buttons. Depending on the vehicle, replacement may involve both key cutting and electronic programming.

Smart & Keyless Keys

Modern vehicles can use proximity or smart-key systems allowing keyless entry and push-button starting. These require vehicle-specific programming equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Ignition repair — common questions

Not necessarily. If the key turns fully and nothing happens, the fault may be with the ignition switch (electrical side), the immobiliser, the starter motor, or the battery rather than the mechanical barrel. Our technician will diagnose the cause before carrying out any work.
Do not force it. Forcing a stuck key can shear the blade inside the barrel. Ensure the steering lock is fully released, the gear is in park (or neutral with the clutch depressed), and then contact us. We can extract the key and inspect the barrel.
In most cases we can supply and fit a replacement barrel that is coded to your existing key, meaning your current key will still operate the ignition. This avoids the cost and inconvenience of cutting and programming a new key at the same time.
A barrel that turns stiffly, requires the key to be jiggled to start, or shows visible wear to the wafers is often a repair or replacement candidate. Our technician will inspect the barrel and advise on the most cost-effective course of action.
Stock varies by make and model. Contact us with your vehicle details before the visit so we can confirm availability and arrange the correct parts where needed.
